Holbrook battled the Lady Yellowjackets in a tough volleyball match on Thursday evening before falling in five well played games.
The Lady Birds played well early in the match, pulling away to take the first game 25-20. Game two went back and forth, with Holbrook eventually giving up a late lead and falling 26-24. Blue Ridge played well, winning game three 25-17. In the fourth, both teams played hard, with several lengthy volleys before Holbrook pulled out a 25-21 win, forcing game five. In the final game Blue Ridge jumped out to a 5-0 lead, leaving the Lady Birds in a hole they couldn’t climb out of as they lost the game 15-13.
Several Holbrook players performed well. Shandie Demuth had 40 assists, 17 digs, three kills and served two aces. Corazon Alvarado had seven kills with 20 digs. Tess Baldonado finished with 26 kills, two assists, an ace and 18 digs. Samantha Smith served four aces and had three digs. Terrilyn Lester had four kills, an assist, served three aces and had 12 digs. Teyah Goldtooth finished with 12 kills, an assist, five aces, 14 digs and had three blocks. Demi Phaturos added 14 digs. Auburn Dush helped with an assist, an ace and nine digs. Tilly Kelly added an assist and a kill.
With the loss Holbrook fell to 4-8 in power point matches. After playing at Mogollon on Tuesday, the Lady Roadrunners will host Window Rock tonight (Oct. 3). Following a week off for fall break, they will return to the court on Tuesday, Oct. 16, with a match at Joseph City.
