The Winslow Junior High School eighth grade football team edged Holbrook’s eighth graders 24-16 in a closely con-tested game played in Winslow last Thursday.
Winslow scored on a 19-yard run after Holbrook had driven inside the Winslow 10 yard line, but lost the ball on a pass interception. The conversion run failed and Winslow led 6-0 at the end of the first quarter.
Winslow scored on a 43-yard pass early in the second quarter to lead 12-0. After the conversion failed again Holbrook scored on a four-yard pass and ran for the two point conversion that cut the lead to 12-8. Winslow got the final score of the first half on a one-yard run, but missed the conversion again to lead 18-8 at the intermission.
Holbrook tightened the lead to 18-16 by scoring on a 16-yard run with a Winslow fumble and a conversion run for the only points of the third quarter.
Winslow scored on a 33-yard run late in the final period, but failed to convert and led 24-16. The young Bulldogs managed to hold on and secure the victory.
