The Roadrunners picked up their first two wins of the soccer season, bringing them to .500 in their past four matches.
Hosting St. Johns on Oct. 3, Holbrook came away with a hard fought, 2-1 win. Jordan Smith took an assist from Andy Leon to open the first half scoring. Twelve minutes later the Redskins scored, making it a 1-1 game at the half.
Leon scored the game winner in the second half, volleying a nice chip pass from Nathan Turley into the back of the net.
James Ramirez played well in goal with six saves in the win. Players also commended by Coach Dave Wright were Micah McClellan, Levi McClellan and Theron Johns.
Two days later, Holbrook traveled to St. Johns and fell behind when the Redskins scored twice late in the first half. St. Johns scored on a penalty kick in the first minute of the second half, putting Holbrook down 3-0. Alex Smith scored an unassisted goal in the second, but that would be as close as the Birds would get in the 4-1 loss.
Carlos Quintana had seven saves in goal for Holbrook.
This past weekend the Roadrunners traveled to Grand Canyon for a pair of matches. Holbrook won Fri-day’s contest 4-2, but after spending the night fell on Saturday, losing 6-1.
The Roadrunners will wrap up their season on Thursday, Oct. 18, as they host Show Low for their final match. Holbrook currently has a regular season mark of 2-10 and will not qualify for post-season play.
