The Joseph City Lady Wildcats suffered their first regular season volleyball match loss last Thursday, falling to Round Valley for the second time this season with the first coming in the Round Valley tourney.
Hoping to redeem themselves from that tournament loss, the Lady Cats came out strong, winning the first game 25-17. They grabbed the lead in the second game and led 21-17, but the Lady Elks came back to win that game 25-23. Joseph City bounced back with a solid performance, winning game three 25-20.
Both teams played well in game four, battling to a 17-all tie before Round Valley eventually won it 25-20, forcing game five. In that game Joseph City played well early, building an 8-2 advantage. The Lady Elks battled back, forcing a tie at 12-12, then went on to win the game and the match, 15-13.
“It was a tough loss. Our girls played with a lot of heart. Round Valley is a pretty good team and we are fairly evenly matched. They just were able to pull it out when it counted,” said Coach Kent Baldwin.
Joseph City headed into this match ranked No. 3 in Division V and will certainly be headed to the post-season. After hosting Holbrook on Tuesday, the Lady Cats will play a doubleheader at Cibecue today (Oct. 17). In the final week of the regular season, they will host St. Michael in a doubleheader on Tuesday, Oct. 23, then host Northland Prep two days later.
