Both Snowflake soccer squads are headed to post-season play, with each opening the state playoffs on Thursday, Oct. 25.
The Lobos finished the final week of the regular season earning a split in their two matches. On Tuesday they picked up a 2-1 home field win over Payson. Playing at Round Valley on Thursday, they came up empty in a 2-0 road loss. They finished the regular season with an overall mark of 7-3-1, seeding them seventh in the 12-team state bracket. The Lobos will host No. 10 Show Low at 6 p.m. on Thursday. This will be the third meeting between the two, with the Lobos winning one match 2-1, then battling the Cougars to a 2-2 tie in the second meeting.
The winner of Thursday’s playoff match will face the second seeded Yellow Jackets at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, in Lakeside.
Despite having a lower win percentage, the Lady Lobos enter the post-season as the fifth overall seed with a 5-6-1 record. They also split their final two matches last week, picking up a 2-1 win at Payson with Kylee Smith and Shelbi Rawlins each netting goals. Matti Scott was credited with one assist. Last Thursday the team fell by the same 2-1 score at Round Valley after holding a 1-0 halftime lead.
Snowflake will face No. 4 River Valley on a neutral field in Flagstaff at 3 p.m. on Thursday. If the Lady Lobos advance, they will see either top ranked Blue Ridge or St. Johns in round two at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Campo Verde High School.
