The Roadrunners hosted more than 30 schools at the Holbrook Cross Country Invitational meet last Friday at Hidden Cove Golf Course. As the final meet for many teams before their sectional competitions, most use this meet as a barometer for how they might stack up against divisional opponents this week.
Tuba City claimed the boys’ team title, scoring 45 points. Hopi placed second with 83 and Winslow was third with 110. Holbrook finished in ninth place with 247 team points. For the girls’ squads, Flagstaff took the team title, edging Page by a single point with 85 points. Pusch Ridge placed third with 110 team points. Holbrook’s team finished in 15th position with 391 points.
Individual winners were Tracy Searel of Chinle with a time of 16:25 for the boys’ race and Sarah McDonald of Pusch Ridge, who won the girls’ event with a time of 20:10.
Mark Clark paced the Holbrook team with a time of 18:00, good for 22nd place. Kyle Chee was right be-hind in 23rd position with a time of 18:01, followed by Marcos Clark, who was 34th in 18:15; Tristan Zahne, 82nd in 19:36; Zachary Tsosie, 87th in 19:45; Roy Begay, 100th in 20:20; and Coy Begay, 124th in 22:37. A total of 145 athletes competed in the race.
In the girls’ varsity race, Col’Bi Nez led the Holbrook squad, placing 49th in a field of 126 runners with a time of 23:07. Miya Tom was 73rd in 24:06; Tanisha Yazzie, 83rd in 24:50; Morgan Zahne, 110th in 27:43; and Latanya Kinlicheenie, 115th in 28:24.
In the open division boys’ race, Keaton Clark led Holbrook’s team, placing 25th in the 134-runner field. Nathan Johnson was 37th; Ryan Bia, 67th; Shane Thomas, 69th; Alonzo Begay, 72nd; Kyle Baldwin, 102nd; and Jayson Puente, 122nd.
LaShaundra Tsosie placed 64th, Jayne Sandoval 76th and Summer Charley was 91st for the Lady Road-runners in a field with 108 runners.
Holbrook will host both the Division III and IV sectional meets on Friday, Oct. 26, at Hidden Cove Golf Course.
