The Bulldogs started the game with good field position after a 44-yard kickoff return by Henry Montiel. They eventually reached the Blue Ridge 22 yard line, where they turned the ball over on downs.
Blue Ridge lost star running back/linebacker Chans Cox, who has signed a letter of intent to Arizona State University, to an injury early in the game. He is expected to be ready to play in the playoffs and was benched to avoid further injury.
Brennan Schimmel intercepted a Winslow pass and returned it to the Bulldogs’ 36 yard line. Nolan Cook scampered 25 yards for the touchdown. The conversion was blocked and Blue Ridge led 6-0 with 5:30 left in the quarter.
Cook scored his second touchdown on a 17-yard run on Blue Ridge’s next possession with just over a minute left in the quarter. Michael Waldo converted to give the Yellowjackets a 13-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Early in the second quarter Cook scored his third touchdown on a two-yard run to complete a 40-yard drive. Waldo’s conversion increased the Blue Ridge lead to 20-0.
Bradley Syth plunged two yards for Blue Ridge’s fourth touchdown midway through the quarter. The conversion increased the Yellowjackets lead to 27-0.
Skyler Hill hit Ben Watson on a 62-yard pass with just over a minute left in the half. The conversion failed and Blue Ridge took a 33-0 lead to the locker room.
Blue Ridge drove inside the Winslow 20 yard line to start the second half, but lost the ball on a fumble. Watson intercepted a Winslow pass a couple of plays later and returned it 26 yards to the Winslow six yard line. Syth scored his second touchdown of the game on a three-yard run. The conversion gave the Yellowjackets a 40-0 lead. That was the only score of the third quarter.
The Winslow defense held Blue Ridge after a first and goal at the Winslow six yard line and the Yellowjackets settled for a 21-yard field goal by Waldo that increased their lead to 43-0 with about four minutes remaining to play. The margin brought the running clock into effect.
