Col’Bi Nez and Kyle Chee will represent Holbrook at the state cross country meet slated on Saturday, Nov. 3, in Cave Creek. They were the only Holbrook athletes to meet the qualifying standard at the divisional meets held at Hidden Cove on Friday. Nez finished in 18th position with a time of 22:00 in the 3.1-mile run, competing against 69 other runners. Chee’s time of 17:44 was good enough for a 23rd place finish, placing him in the top 25, who automatically advance to the state meet. There were 86 runners in the boys’ race.
Nikesha Eagleman of Ganado won the girls’ race with a time of 19:16. Mykala Seresun of Sedona Red Rock placed second and Daangoiina Haven from Ganado was third. Hope won the team title with 39 points. Northland Prep finished second with 63 and Ganado was third with 65. Holbrook placed seventh among nine teams with 191 points.
Also running for the Lady Roadrunners, but not advancing to the state meet, were Miya Tom, who placed 28th with a time of 23:00; Morgan Zahne, 54th in 26:44; Latanya Kinlicheenie, 58th in 27:55; and LaShaundra Tsosie, 60th in 29:08.
In the boys’ race, Searel Tracy of Chinle won the event with a time of 17:44. Shawn Tsinnijinnie of Tuba City was second and Kyle Nutumya, also of Tuba City, was third. Page took the team title with 39 points. Mingus followed with 49 and Chinle was third, scoring 75 points.
Runners for Holbrook not achieving the qualifying standards were Marcos Clark, who placed 32nd; Mark Clark, 36th; Zach Tsosie, 44th; Triston Zahne, 46th; Keaton Clark, 62nd; and Roy Begay, 72nd.
The boys will run at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday in the state cross country meet at Cave Creek Golf Course and the girls race follows at 11:30 a.m.
