Nov 072012

The Indian Wells Elementary School cross country team finished the 2012 season very strong. This was an extremely busy season in which the team traveled every Wednesday to a school on the reservation. The team attended eight meets before finals, which included some of the IWES students attending a meet during fall break. Events were held at Leupp, Seba, Star, Little Singer, Wide Ruins, Second Mesa, Rocky Ridge and Dilkon.
Head Coach Laura Tsosie stated that the 2012 team was the largest she has seen in her seven years of coaching the team. The team had 65 runners representing IWES and Holbrook Junior High School. Coach Tsosie was assisted by Coach Joe and Coach Eddings.
The finals event was held Oct. 17 at IWES, with 11 schools represented. The IWES boys’ varsity team finished first overall in the league with the girls’ varsity finishing second. The boys’ junior varsity team placed second, as did the girls’ jayvee team.
The Pee Wee Division was extremely well represented at the finals meet with more than 96 runners from the different schools participating in this young group. The team included both girls and boys. The IWES Pee Wees finished in first place, with the youngest runner from the kindergarten class.
