Heading into the Division III State Volleyball Tournament as the 13th overall seed after earning their way into the tournament in the final week of the season with a big upset win over Safford, the Lady Lobos found themselves matched up with a very good fourth seeded Monument Valley team in the first round last Friday afternoon at Tim’s Toyota Center in Prescott Valley.
The Lady Mustangs have traditionally been a powerhouse program from the reservation and this year they fielded another stellar team. They easily handled the Lady Lobos in the first game, 25-12, and took a big lead by winning the second game 25-16. Snowflake battled tough in the third game, but was unable to extend the match as the Lady Lobos’ season came to a close with a 21-25 loss.
The Lady Mustangs went on to lose to the same Safford team Snowflake defeated the previous week. Safford was then upended by Tuba City in the title game on Saturday evening.
