The Snowflake/Taylor Recreation and Parks Department will be conducting registration and tryouts for the 2013 basketball season at the Snowflake Junior High School Gym. Participants who need a registration waiver form can pick one up at Snowflake or Taylor town hall. The registration waiver form and $15 fee per player will be collected at the tryouts; please bring correct change. The tryouts will be used to rank youth according to their ability for assignment on teams. All youth, including the coach’s son/daughter, need to tryout for an accurate count to determine the number of teams needed. Youth who sign up, but who do not try out will be assigned (in order) to teams instead of being drafted by coaches–no exceptions. The number of youth that will be able to play depends on the number of coaches who volunteer. Organizers hope to recruit enough coaches so that everyone will have a chance to play. If you would like to coach, call Don Camacho at 536-7103, ext. 225. All coaches are asked to come to the tryouts to help rank youth and to get an idea of the players they would like to draft.
Tryouts for third and fourth grade girls (up to 10 years old) will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14; third and fourth grade boys (up to 10 years old), 7:45 p.m. on Nov. 14; fifth and sixth grade girls (up to 13 years old), 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15; and fifth and sixth grade boys (up to 13 years old), 7:45 p.m. on Nov. 15. Youth who go beyond the age limit of each league have to play in the older division.
Youth who absolutely are unable to tryout on the dates scheduled will have one last chance on Monday, Nov. 26, at the SJHS Gym. Third and fourth grade girls and boys will tryout from 7 to 8 p.m., and fifth and sixth grade girls and boys from 8 to 9 p.m. Youth who can’t be at either of the tryouts must be signed up by 4 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 3, at Snowflake Town Hall.
Games will be played on Saturdays, and will start on Jan 12.
The seventh through ninth grade league will start after the SJHS teams are formed. Their games will be played from 6 to 9 p.m. during the week.
