A young man died in an early morning crash on Saturday, Oct. 27, in Taylor.
At 5:12 a.m. on Oct. 27, the Snowflake-Taylor Police Department received a report of a vehicle fire on 500 West Street in Taylor. Emergency crews were dispatched to the fire. While it was being distinguished, fire personnel noticed that there was someone inside, later identified as Samuel Vielma, 24, of Taylor. He was pulled out of the vehicle, but had already succumbed to his injuries and was pronounce dead at the scene.
Police are investigating this accident and have identified several traffic violations prior to the impact with a parked vehicle. Although there was alcohol in the vehicle, it is yet to be determined if alcohol was a factor of this accident.
According to Sergeant Brandon Gardner, the crash damage, as well as the distance that the parked vehicle traveled after impact and other factors, indicated that Vielma’s vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed.
Chief Jerry VanWinkle said, “A tragedy such as this is a hard thing to understand. Whether the cause was speed related, alcohol related or both, it could have been prevented. I would plead for motorists to obey the traffic rules, stay aware of your surroundings and always wear a seatbelt. For those who choose to drink alcohol I recommend that you ride with a sober designated driver so you can reach your destination safely. We all have a responsibility to do our part and to remain safe. Do it for yourselves, families and friends.”
