The Winslow Lady Bulldogs have begun practice and will scrimmage the Lady Longhorns on Friday, Nov. 16, at Payson. The scrimmage will begin at 5 p.m. and will be followed by a scrimmage between the Winslow Bulldogs and the Payson Longhorns at 7 p.m.
Winslow will open regular season play on Tuesday, Nov. 20, against the Ganado Lady Hornets. The varsity game will be at 6 p.m. in the Don Petranovich Gym, with the freshman girls playing in the old Bulldog Gym at the same time. The junior varsity girls will play at 4:30 p.m. in the Bulldog Gym.
The Winslow Bulldog boys’ team will play the Williams Vikings on that same date, with the junior varsity playing at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity at 7:30 p.m. in the Petranovich Gym.
Coach Jerron Jordan has 13 players on the Winslow girls’ varsity, with two seniors, five juniors, five sophomores and one freshman. Six players are returning from last season and seven are new to the team. Returning veteran players are Marcella Joe, Mattea Begaii, Laylane Benslow, Halle Hayes, Shandiin Armao and Tannon Tom. Key new players include Kaelyn Bitsoi, Michaela Bia, Jacey Sangstar, Theresa Thompson, Ami Begay, Stephanie Begody and Katonya Begay.
The Lady Bulldogs will host the Hopi Lady Bruins on Tuesday, Nov. 27, and journey to Polacca on Tuesday, Dec. 4, for a rematch with them. Following those games Winslow will play in the always very competitive Gallup Invitational Tournament scheduled Thursday through Saturday, Dec. 6-8, in Gallup, N.M.
Home games on Tuesday, Dec. 11, against the Blue Ridge Lady Yellowjackets and on Tuesday, Dec. 18, against the Page Lady Sand Devils precede the Winslow Winter Classic Tournament slated Thursday through Saturday, Dec. 20-22. That tournament will be the last event of the 2012 portion of the schedule.
