Alice Gomez Alvarez Garcia, 80, earned her wings and entered the pearly gates of Heaven on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, in Holbrook. A public viewing was scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Owens Living-ston Mortuary in Holbrook. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 o’clock this morning (Nov. 16) at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 212 E. Arizona in Holbrook, preceded by Holy Rosary at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow the services at the Holbrook Cemetery.
She was born June 14, 1932, in Winslow to Pete Gomez and Josephina Guerrero Gomez.
Alice was very active and involved in the Catholic Church, in local charities and in general in her community. She loved to collect religious items.
She was a very good mother who loved her children and grandchildren. She also loved her many, many godchildren.
Alice was a very hard worker who could do many different jobs, all very well.
She loved to travel, and was particularly proud of the fact that she rode on the back of a motorcycle to Canada at age 60.
Alice was a kind, compassionate and caring person who was always helping others.
Survivors include four children, Paul (Gina) Garcia of Holbrook, Eva (David) Purvis of Holbrook, Arthur (Vivian) Garcia of Peoria and Anthony (Janice) Garcia of Peoria; 18 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandson; four sisters, Ramona Padilla of Holbrook, Mary Avalar of Holbrook, Aurelia Pipkins of Avondale and Vivian Flores of Phoenix; one brother, Henry Alvarez of Phoenix; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Steven L. Garcia Jr.
