God dispatched His angels to call Samuel Handy, 89, home to rest at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012. Fu-neral services were held Nov. 17 at Zion Baptist Church in Winslow, with Rev. Wendell Carter presiding. Interment was at Desert View Cemetery.
Samuel was born April 4, 1923, to Pate Handy and Martha Jane Williams in Mansfield, La. He was one of four siblings.
He grew up in Mansfield, and accepted Christ at an early age. In 1950 Samuel moved to Winslow, where he united in marriage with Birda Ree Davis. Two children were born into this union. Samuel worked at Duke City Lumber Mill and later for Waste Management until his retirement.
Samuel united with Zion Baptist Church, where he was on the board of trustees, and was president of the ushers board. He was doorkeeper for the Lord until his illness.
He was a devoted father and grandfather.
He leaves to forever cherish his memory two beloved daughters, Martha King of Las Vegas, Nev., and Betty Burney of Phoenix; one brother Aubry Handy (Pe Colia) of Mansfield; one granddaughter, Krinda King of Phoenix; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by both parents; and two sisters, Zerlene Perry and Nonie Smith, who passed on Nov. 2, 2012.
Greer’s Mortuary of Winslow was in charge of the arrangements.
