The Winslow High School wrestling team began its 2012-13 season with a 56-17 loss to the Holbrook Roadrunners in a dual meet held Monday in Winslow.
Blane Foster got the Bulldogs off on the right foot when he pinned Samuel Plumb of Holbrook in the 106-pound match. Theron Johns of Holbrook pinned Winslow’s Tyrail Smith in the 113-pound match and Levi McClellan of Holbrook pinned David Archibeque in the 120-pound match to give the Roadrunners the lead. Caleb McClellan kept things going for the Roadrunners in the 126-pound match when he pinned Leo Armijo of the Bulldogs.
In the 132-pound match, James Ramirez of Holbrook won a 9-7 decision over Winslow’s Daniel Lopez. Michael McMonigal of Holbrook won an 8-6 decision over Chad Edgmon of Winslow in the 138-pound match.
Adrian Montoya got the Bulldogs a win in the 145-pound match when he pinned Holbrook’s Jedde Bowman. James Martinez kept that streak alive when he pinned his namesake James Martinez of Holbrook in the 152-pound match.
Kevin Self of Holbrook righted things for the Roadrunners in the 160-pound match when he pinned Jack Fela of Winslow. In the 170-pound match, Logan Tsinijinnie won on a technical fall over Dustin Key of Winslow. In the 182-pound match Nikko Ferniza of Holbrook won a 4-3 decision over Winslow’s Jacob Huddleston.
In the 195-pound match, Shem Bowman of Holbrook pinned Chad Colvin of Winslow. In the 220-pound match, CJ Plumb of Holbrook pinned Justin Brinkley of Winslow. Mathew Gishi of Holbrook won the 285-pound and final match on a forfeit.
The next action for the Bulldogs is a multi-team event on Wednesday, Nov. 28, at Coconino High School in Flagstaff. That will be followed by the Pat Kenny Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, in Holbrook.
