Snowflake’s Lobos headed into Saturday’s semifinal round of the state football championships against the Blue Ridge Yellowjackets with a lot of confidence, having rolled off several straight wins to earn their shot at the defending champions. Unfortunately, Blue Ridge displayed why it is easily the best team in Division IV by routing the Lobos 44-0.
Snowflake played tough in the first period, trailing just 3-0. In the second the Lobos couldn’t get their own offense going, but still held the Jackets to just another touchdown until the final minutes of the half when Blue Ridge connected on a 52-yard scoring pass to head to the locker room with a 17-0 lead and a ton of momentum.
The second half didn’t go much better for the fourth ranked Lobos as they continued to struggle with Blue Ridge’s defense. The Yellowjackets added a pair of touchdowns in both the third and fourth quarters to advance to the title game for the third straight year and bring Snowflake’s season to a close with 10-3 record. Two of those losses came against the Jackets by a combined total of 94-0.
