A low scoring third period put the Joseph City Wildcats into a hole they couldn’t battle all the way out of in Tuesday night’s 63-53 home court loss to St. Johns.
The Redskins built a four-point lead through the first period, only to see the Cats trim that margin to just a 27-25 St. John’s halftime lead. In the third, the Redskins pulled out to a 15-point cushion, helped by the Cats’ inability to find the mark. Joseph City managed just six points in the third. In the fourth the Cats rallied back, scoring 22 points, but could get no closer than 10 in the loss.
Jacob Fields led the Cats in scoring with 16 points to go with 10 boards and five steals. Cody Davis netted 13. Wyatt Johnson added 8 with three rebounds. Austin Bushman and Daniel Hutchens each dropped in 6. Chance Rush and T.J. Hendricks both came away with 2.
The Cats made three of six free throws and couldn’t overcome their 21 turnovers.

The Wildcats, now 1-1, will be in action at the Route 66 tournament in Williams this weekend. Next week they host Williams on Tuesday and Ash Fork on Friday.
