The Lady Wildcats have posted an early season record of 5-1 with a pair of big wins over Williams and a 2-1 performance at the Page Tournament last weekend.
After opening the season with an impressive romp over St. Johns, the Joseph City girls traveled to Williams Nov. 28, where they handed the Lady Vikings a 70-13 home court loss. In that matchup, Kristin Baldwin led the way with 17 points, Searra Hansen added 14, Sierra Johnstun, 11, and Taylor Hill netted 9 as the top scorers for the Lady Wildcats.
On Nov. 29, Joseph City met up with the Division III defending state champion Page Lady Sand Devils in their own tournament and played them tough, leading by three at the half and trailing by just three heading into the fourth. In the final eight minutes the Lady Sand Devils pulled away, handing the Lady Wildcats their only loss of the season thus far, 49-38.
Kristin Baldwin scored 18 with dominant inside work. Madison Fields added 8, Hansen, 5, Kayla Hughes, 3, and Johnstun and Brook Baldwin, 2 each.
Friday’s tournament game matched the Lady Wildcats up against Cactus High School and Joseph City re-turned to its winning ways with a 49-35 victory over the Lady Cobras.
The Lady Cats built a seven-point halftime margin, then slowly increased that number throughout the second half to secure the win. Hansen ended with 18, Kristin Baldwin added 16, Fields, 7, Johnstun, 4, and Brook Baldwin and Hill, 2 each.
In their final tournament game on Saturday the Lady Wildcats squared off with Utah’s Pine View High School. Joseph City started slowly, trailing by six at the end of the first, but in the second the Lady Cats flipped the tables to lead 24-19 at the half. A solid defensive effort in the second half led to a 46-30 final outcome.
Hansen again led the way with 13, Kristin Baldwin added 12, Hill, 11, Hughes and Brook Baldwin, 3 each, and Fields, 2.
On Tuesday night the Lady Wildcats returned to regular season play with a second straight blowout win over Williams, 76-10.
Joseph City will play at St. Michaels tonight (Dec. 7), then return home to host a very talented Valley Sanders team on Tuesday night, Dec. 11. It should be an exciting matchup between two good clubs.
