The Roadrunners dropped two close duals at the Snowflake Multiple last Friday, losing to both Snowflake and St. Johns by identical 44-33 team scores.
Holbrook controlled the first four weight classes against St. Johns, winning three by pin, and also won at 195 with Shem Bowman and at 220 with CJ Plumb pinning his opponent. The middle weights were dominated entirely by St. Johns, with the Redskins winning seven consecutive matches.
Holbrook wrestlers winning by pin were Sam Plumb, Theron Johns, Caleb McClellan, Shem Bowman and CJ Plumb. Levi McClellan won by decision in the 120 class. James Ramirez and Michael McMonigal lost their matches via major decisions. Jedde Bowman, Clayton Hunt, Joseph Herrera, Kevin Self, Nikko Ferniza and Mathew Gishi were all pinned in their matches.
The dual with Snowflake went back and forth before the Lobos eventually won, claiming four of the final five matches.
Winning by pin for Holbrook were Caleb McClellan over Tyler Kelley, James Ramirez over Kayden Davis, Nikko Ferniza over Zach Winder, Shem Bowman over Eldon McCray and Levi McClellan over Bren-ton Ballard. Kevin Self won by major decision over Alex Foree. Michael McMonigal lost by a technical fall to Zane Owens. Those getting pinned by Lobo wrestlers were Jedde Bowman, Joseph Herrera, CJ Plumb, Mathew Gishi, Sam Plumb and Theron Johns. Clayton Hunt lost a close decision to Lane Whipple.
“We had two tough duals on Friday. These are some of the top teams from their divisions. Both could have gone either way. If we would have pinned one of their guys and we would not have gotten pinned, we could have won 39-38 in both matches. That is how close things were,” said Coach John Bokker.
“I was happy with the way the guys wrestled. Kevin Self really impressed me beating Alex Foree from Snowflake, who he lost to last week.”
