The City of Holbrook has issued a building permit for the new Maverik Store currently under construction at the intersection of Navajo Blvd. and Crestview.
The project is being built on nearly three acres of land and will include a 4,360-square foot convenience store, which is about 500 square feet larger than the Show Low store.
Maverik Construction Manager Paul Heywood said the store will be matched in size only by the recently completed Kingman store. The price tag on the project is coming in at $3 million to $4 million.
Heywood said there will be 10 two-sided pumps for passenger vehicles for a total of 20 dispensers, eight of which will carry diesel. There are also four high flow diesel-fueling stations for semi-trucks.
Two outside picnic areas will feature Arizona Ash shade trees and a grassy area where patrons can rest. Desert landscaping will cover the rest of the property.
Heywood said because of the proximity to Interstate 40, he expects the store to draw interstate travelers, as well as long-haul truckers.
“It’s a great location. We’re very pleased with that property on the corner and we’ve had such a great experience with Holbrook,” said Heywood. “We build around 25 stores a year and I can’t think of a community that’s been more accommodating in leading us through the process.”
“We’re excited to be working with Maverik on this project,” said Holbrook City Manager Ray Alley. “We’re glad to be working with more folks interested in setting up businesses here in Holbrook. The city’s idea is that we’re going to find reasons to make stuff work.”
According to Heywood, about 200 people will be involved in the construction project, and the business will provide 20 to 27 permanent positions. Maverik will conduct a hiring fair about one month prior to opening, which is expected to be March 27, 2013. Those interested in applying are encouraged to consult to find hiring information.
Richard Watts, LLC, based in the Phoenix area, is the primary contractor.
Dates for a community open house will be announced closer to the opening date.
