The deadline has passed for interested individuals to submit candidate packets for the Holbrook City Council, and all those who filed are incumbents. Those seeking to remain in their positions are Myron Maxwell, Wade Carlisle and Richard Peterson.
According to City Clerk Cher Reyes, despite there being no additional candidates, the March 12 election will still be taking place. “We are required by statute to hold the election. I’ve looked into whether or not we could avoid it, but there’s no option,” stated Reyes. She explained that having the election allows for write-in candidates to be considered as part of the ballot.
Reyes estimates that holding an election costs the city anywhere from $5,000 to $7,000, with the greatest portion of that expense going to postage.
