The Lady Lobos played close to unbeaten Payson, but in the end they came up on the wrong end of a 33-32 final score last Tuesday.
Neither team piled up very many points through the first eight minutes, with visiting Payson leading 7-5 at the end of one. In the second Snowflake moved out in front by a single point in another low scoring quarter, leaving the Lady Lobos on top 15-14 at the half. Snowflake edged its lead to two through three periods, but in the fourth was outscored by three, thus suffering the one-point loss.
Jessica Neff played well for Snowflake, finishing with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Katie Larson added 6 points with eight steals. Matti Scott also scored 6. Caitlin Christensen added 4 and pulled down eight boards. Tycee Coplan netted 3 and Shelbi Rawlins finished with 2 in the loss.
Overall, Snowflake made five of 12 free throws, which was slightly better than Payson’s two for nine effort at the line. The Lady Lobos counted for 19 turnovers, but forced the Lady Longhorns into 31 turnovers.
After playing in Holbrook on Monday, the Lady Lobos will face Hopi in the first round of the Winslow Winter Classic on Friday afternoon, Dec. 21. They will play a total of four games this weekend, then will have time off for the holiday break. The Snowflake squad will resume action on Jan. 3 with a trip to Payson, then will host Winslow on Jan. 4.
Snowflake headed into this week’s action with an overall record of 3-5.
