The Lady Lobos went 1-3 at the Winslow Winter Classic held Dec. 21 and 22.
Snowflake opened the tournament cruising past Hopi, then fell to the hosting Lady Bulldogs 48-18 that night. In that contest Winslow, the eventual tournament champion, limited the Lady Lobos to single digits in each of the four quarters with a tough defense. The Lady Bulldogs built a big lead early, then cruised in the second half.
The next morning Snowflake faced Holbrook in what was a bounce back game for the Lady Roadrunners. Holbrook played well in the second and third quarters, outscoring the Lobos 34-18 over that stretch which lead to a 57-40 final outcome. Snowflake was led in scoring by Matti Scott, who finished with 14 and was the only player in double figures. Tycee Coplan added 8 and Jessica Neff scored 6.
In their final game of the tournament, the Lady Lobos faced a much taller and very good Joseph City squad, which defeated them by double digits, leaving Snowflake with an overall mark of 4-9 heading into the Christmas break.
Snowflake will play at Payson on Thursday, Jan. 3, then host Winslow next night. On Tuesday, Jan. 8, they travel to Cibecue. All of the Lady Lobos’ remaining games will count toward the power point standings. They headed to the break ranked 25th in the early rankings. The top 24 teams will qualify for the state tournament in February.
