The Snowflake Lobos headed into an extended holiday break with a split in their final two games of the 2012 calendar year.
After winning on the road at Holbrook on Dec. 17, they dropped their final game of the year on Dec. 21 at Window Rock.
Facing the Scouts on the road is a tough task for any team, as the Lobos discovered, coming home with a 65-50 loss. It was only their fourth loss of the season, but more importantly it was a power point loss, drop-ping the Lobos to No. 7 in the early season power point rankings. Window Rock headed into the break as the top ranked team, although with a heavy January schedule for all area teams look for the power rankings to shuffle throughout the second half of the season.
Rick Shumway played well, leading the Lobos in points with 17 to go along with his five boards and four steals. Dallin Merrell added 8 points, as did Reggie Petersen, who pulled in 12 rebounds. Jarom Beecroft added 5 points, Chase Walden and Keagan Kay, 4 each, and Dallin Fusselman and Doug Brimhall, 2 each.
Snowflake went eight for nine at the charity line, but committed 22 turnovers against the Scouts’ pressure defense.
Sitting at 10-4 the Lobos will return to the court on Thursday, Jan. 3, with a trip to Payson to meet the Longhorns. They follow that up with a home game against Winslow the next night, then travel to Cibecue for what should be an easy game on Tuesday, Jan. 8.
