Joseph City High School will host its 42nd annual invitational wrestling tournament today and Saturday (Jan. 4 and 5). The tournament is scheduled to begin at 1 o’clock this afternoon. Session Two will start at 10 a.m. on Saturday, and a Gold Medal Championship Round will be held at approximately 3 o’clock on Saturday afternoon.
Thirteen teams from all over the state will be represented at the tournament, including Antelope High School, Baboquivari High School, Boulder Creek High School, Flagstaff High School, Hopi High School, Joseph City High School, Kingman High School, Many Farms High School, Palo Verde High School, Pima High School, Piñon High School, Tahono O’Odom High School, Valley Lutheran High School and Yuma Catholic High School.
This year’s tournament is a team tourney with each team wrestling six dual meets. At the close of the Saturday morning’s session, a short seeding meeting will be held to determine the top six wrestlers in each weight class who will be wrestling in the championship round for the medals. Finalists will be determined by their record during the dual meet portion of the tournament.
Admission is $6 per day. JCHS activity cards and AIA passes will be accepted.
