The Winslow Bulldogs defeated the Holbrook Roadrunners 52-43 in the consolation championship game of the Tournament of Champions at Chinle Dec. 29. The win ended the 2012 portion of the team’s schedule with an 11-4 record.
Window Rock won the championship 61-52 over the Tuba City Warriors. The Scouts had defeated the Bulldogs in the opening round two days earlier, 65-61, and beat the Monument Valley Mustangs 84-69 in the semifinals the next day. Monument Valley edged Holbrook 64-59 in an opening round game.
Tuba City ran all over the Ganado Hornets 67-27 and edged the Chinle Wildcats 81-79 in the semifinals. Chinle defeated Monument Valley 77-53 for third place on Saturday.
Holbrook edged Ganado by a single point 51-50 to earn its spot against Winslow in the consolation championship game.
Holbrook led the Bulldogs 10-9 after the first quarter of the consolation game and was still up 28-27 at the half. Winslow had a 38-34 lead after three quarters of play and improved that margin in the final period.
Michael Goldtooth led all scorers with 14 points for the Bulldogs. Lukas Shirley added 12 points and Stevin Nelson scored nine for Winslow. Kyle Chee led the Roadrunners with 13 points.
The Window Rock Scouts nipped the Bulldogs 65-61 in the opening round of play.
The teams were tied at 10-10 after the first quarter, but the Scouts had a narrow 26-22 lead at the half and a slimmer 45-44 advantage after three periods. The Scouts added to their narrow advantage slightly in the final quarter.
Goldtooth led all scorers with 29 points, but was the only Bulldog in double figures. Ian Bahe paced the Scouts with 19 points and Kyler Ashley added 15.

The Bulldogs are slated to play the Eagles tonight (Jan. 9) in Flagstaff. Next week they will play at Window Rock on Tuesday and at Blue Ridge in Lakeside on Thursday before entertaining the Flagstaff Eagles on Friday and Monument Valley on Saturday.
