After having nearly three weeks off from competition, Holbrook’s wrestlers were in action at the highly competitive Peoria Invitational last Friday and Saturday.
“Peoria is a tough tournament. We are the only school from our division which competes there,” said Coach John Bokker. “Clayton Hunt took sixth and Theron Johns placed fifth. Nikko (Ferniza) and Shem (Bowman) were both one match away from placing. Theron wrestled some hard fought matches, losing to the number one and number three wrestlers. Clayton really impressed me battling back from an early loss and beating some very tough kids to place.”
Sam Plumb went 0-2 in the 106-lb. class. Theron Johns was 3-2 with three pins in the 113-lb. class. Levi McClellan went 1-2 with one pin at 120. Caleb McClellan was 2-2 with both wins by pin in the 126-lb. class. James Ramirez went 0-2 at 132. Michael McMonigal went 0-2 in the 138-lb. class. Jedde Bowman was 0-2 in the 145-lb. class. Joseph Herrera went 0-2 at 152. Clayton Hunt went 5-3 in the 160-lb. class, with three of his five wins coming by pin. Kevin Self went 1-2 with one pin in the 170-lb. class. Nikko Ferniza went 2-2 with both wins by decision at 182. Shem Bowman was 2-2 at 195, with both wins by decision. CJ Plumb was 1-2 with a pin in the 220-lb. class. Mathew Gishi went 0-2 at 285.
