Harold Thomas, 94, passed away on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, in Winslow. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. (MST) today (Jan. 18) at Leupp Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow at the family plot in Tolani Lake.
He was born on Sept. 21, 1918, in Tolani Lake to Astoni and Adzah Begay. Harold was of the Ashjjhí (Salt) Clan born for the T³aáœhchii (Red Bottom) Clan. His Nali is Todi ‘chiinii (Bitter Water) Clan and his Chei is Kiny aá áánii (Towering House) Clan.
Harold was a lifetime rancher. He worked as a union laborer on construction projects such as the Glen Canyon Dam, the Navajo Generating Station and El Paso Natural Gas pipeline. He also worked for the Santa Fe Railroad.
Survivors include his wife, Nellie Thomas; four daughters, Shirley Thomas, Lorena Moore, Jeanette Tho-mas and Melinda Williams; three sons, Alfred Thomas, Ronald Thomas and Michael Lynn Thomas; 17 grand-children; and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Astoni and Adzah Begay; two sons, Harry Thomas and Harold Thomas Jr.; his grandmother, Ashzah Nez; and his grandfather, Ahdilthdoni.
Greer’s Mortuary of Winslow was in charge of the arrangements.
