Dallin Merrell, a senior at Snowflake High School, was honored in November as one of Arizona’s two state winners of the 2012 Wendy’s High School Heisman Award. As a state winner, he competed for the national award that celebrates students’ hard work, dedication and exceptional records in athletics, academics and community leadership. The other state winner was Sarah Macdonald of Push Ridge Christian Academy in Tucson. They were selected from 45,000 applicants, surviving rounds that narrowed contenders to one female and one male winner from each school, and then to 20 state finalists.
Dallin has participated in football and basketball for four years, and track for two years. This year he was team captain in football, where he has been a four-year letterman. He is a three-year letterman in basketball. He is also a member of the National Honor Society and the executive student council, and carries a 4.0 unweighted grade point average.
