Frederick Ross “Rick” Coffey, 69, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, in Canon City, Colo. A memorial service celebrating his life was held Jan. 28 at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Canon City, with Pastor Robert Kippley officiating.
He was born July 16, 1943, in Winslow.
Rick worked as a quality control engineer for the Arizona Highway Department and Bechtel Corporation, where he assisted in the construction of numerous power plants throughout the United States.
He was a lifetime member of Elks Lodge No. 536 in Winslow, serving twice as its exalted ruler. During his term as exalted ruler, Rick was instrumental in providing food baskets to those in need at both Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Rick loved being surrounded by family and friends, and always looked forward to family gatherings.
All his life he enjoyed both baseball and football. He played baseball in his younger years, and always followed the Atlanta Braves and Colorado Rockies.
Survivors include his brother, Roger (Linda) Coffey of Canon City; his sons, Peter “Chip” (Sean) Coffey of Phoenix, Joaquin “Jay” (Terry) Coffey of San Diego, Calif., Joe (Rachel) Coffey of Elkhorn, Wis., and Leland “Chris” (JoAnne) Coffey of Yukon, Okla.; 11 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either the Elks Foundation or the Scleroderma Foundation in Rick’s memory.
Holt Family Funeral Home of Canon City was in charge of the arrangements.
