One overtime game and two blowouts added up to three more wins for the Lobos last week.
After losing to Show Low the previous week by two at home, Snowflake traveled into Cougar Country on Tuesday and man handled the home team to extract revenge with a 63-37 win.
Rick Shumway led the charge with 19 points. Braccin Tanner connected on three long bombs for 9. Chase Walden also netted 9 with six assists. Reggie Peterson added 9 with 10 boards. Jarom Beecroft scored 5, Doug Brimhall, 4, and Dallin Fusselman, Luke Lewis, Keegan Kay and Dallin Merrell, 2 each.
On Friday night the Lobos welcomed a Roadrunner team in search of wins to extend their season. Despite the difference in the power point rankings, with Snowflake ranked fifth and Holbrook, 40th, this game was close and exciting throughout and took an additional four minutes of overtime to decide.
Snowflake led by two at the half, but trailed by one heading into the fourth. After withstanding three-point shots from Holbrook late in the game, in the overtime session the Lobos were able to secure the 57-54 win.
Petersen again was solid with 21 points and 11 boards. Shumway added 15, Merrell, 10, Doug Baldwin, 5, Walden, 3, Beecroft, 2, and Tanner, 1.
The Lobos struggled from the free throw line, keeping the game close, going just 13 for 25, although they did connect on six of eight charity shots in the overtime period.
On Saturday free throws didn’t matter as the Lobos cruised to a 70-46 win over Round Valley.
Four players netted double figures in the easy win led by Petersen with 22. Walden added 16, Shumway, 11, Brimhall, 10, Kay, 5, Tanner 3, Merrell, 2, and Trent Caldwell, 1.
With three games left in the regular season the Lobos were ranked fifth in power points with a record of 13-3. Overall they are 18-6. After hosting Joseph City in their final home game of the year on Tuesday, the Lobos will travel to Safford on Thursday, Jan. 31, and will play Blue Ridge on Friday, Feb. 1, in Lakeside to conclude regular season play. If they finish in the top eight in sectional points as expected, they will play in the section tournament next week either at Winslow or Chinle, depending on their final seeding. They will be in the state tournament in two weeks.
