The Lady Lobos dropped their final three games of the regular season last week, putting their state playoff hopes in jeopardy.
On Tuesday, the Snowflake squad fell in its final home game of the season, a hard fought 52-43 loss to visiting Joseph City. Snowflake did a good job containing the Lady Wildcats’ size, but in the end they came up nine points short. Jessica Neff played well, scoring 16 points. Matti Scott added 12, Caitlin Christensen, 7, Brylee Coplan, 5, Katie Larson, 2, and Alexa Jones, 1. Snowflake had 15 steals, but committed 25 turnovers.
Thursday’s long road trip to Safford resulted in a 65-57 double overtime loss to the Lady Bulldogs and their top player Jordan Abalos, who led both teams with 34 points. The Lady Lobos had their chances for the win in regulation, but a controversial offensive rebound and put back as time expired forced the first overtime session. Snowflake was again ahead in the second overtime with less than a minute remaining, but a couple of missed layups eventually allowed Safford to pull out the win.
After a long game, a long ride back and a short night, the Lobos had to travel to Lakeside on Friday, where fatigue caught up with them in a 49-38 loss to Blue Ridge.
Snowflake finished the regular season with an overall mark of 7-18. The Lady Lobos will not be in the sectional tournament this week, but they are currently ranked 25th in the power point standings. There is a chance they could move into the top 24 in the rankings and advance to the state tournament if the right combination of teams win or lose in the three section tournaments across the state this week. They will not know their fate until Sunday afternoon, Feb. 10.
