The Lobos head into the post-season on an eight-game winning streak after taking their last three regular season games last week, pushing their overall mark to 21-6.
On Tuesday Snowflake welcomed in Joseph City for the final home game of the season. The Wildcats proved no match for the bigger Lobos as the home team won 64-38. Chase Walden led the team in scoring in each of last week’s three contests, finishing this game with 15 points. Doug Brimhall added 10, Luke Lewis, 9, Reggie Petersen, 7, Rick Shumway, 6, Jarom Beecroft and Braccin Tanner, 5 each, Dallin Merrell, 3, and Keegan Kay and Dallin Fusselman, 2 each.
On Thursday Snowflake made the long trip to Safford, but the extended bus ride had no ill effect on the Lobos as they rolled to a 62-46 win. Walden led with 23 points, including three treys. Shumway added 10 with nine boards. Petersen also finished with 10 points, followed by Brimhall with 6, Kay and Fusselman, 4 each, Merrell, 3, and Lewis, 2.
The Lobos wrapped up the regular season with a hard fought, 66-54 road win over Blue Ridge at Lake-side. Walden led with 20, followed closely by Petersen, who finished with 19 and 12 rebounds. Merrell added 14, Shumway, 7, and Brimhall, 4. The Lobos helped their cause by going 15 for 18 at the charity stripe.
Snowflake finished the regular season ranked third in the section and will face sixth ranked Blue Ridge in the first round of the sectional tournament at 7:30 tonight (Feb. 6) in Winslow. With a win they would face either Alchesay or Chinle on Friday, Feb. 8, at the Den in Chinle in the semifinal round. The Lobos also finished in the top eight in the state and will get a first round bye in the state tournament. Their second round opponent will not be determined until all the section tournaments have been completed.
