The Holbrook Volunteer Fire Department is on the scene to put out this fire that occurred Friday morning, Feb. 8, at a residence located at the corner of Fifth Avenue and West Florida Street. Holbrook Police Officer Everett Olson was driving past the residence while on duty and saw wood stacked near the home was on fire. As he attempted to put the fire out with his extinguisher, Police Chief Mark Jackson and Sgt. Matt Molique arrived on the scene and assisted by dumping buckets of water on the fire until fire trucks arrived. Unfortunately, unusually high winds helped to fuel the blaze, allowing flames to access the attic of the home. The homeowner, Joey Martinez, recently renovated the home, which was built in 1942, and was using it as a rental. Although the fire was mostly contained to the at-tic, the house sustained extensive smoke and water damage, destroying most of the interior and displacing the individuals who were living there. No one was at home at the time the fire occurred.
