Once the final power point rankings were announced on Sunday afternoon, the Lady Roadrunners found themselves listed as the 12th overall seed and hosting No. 21 Estrella Foothills in a first round tournament game at 7 o’clock tonight (Jan. 13) at Muñoz Gym.
If they come away with a victory, the Lady Roadrunners will face the No. 5 Alchesay Lady Falcons, who earned a first round bye, in a second round game at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16, at Northern Arizona University.
“Every team in the state tournament is a quality team and we know we are going to have to be at the top of our game over the next two weeks to achieve our goal,” said Coach Greg Perkins. “We have had our best week of practices and, hopefully, can get to the first round healthy and be ready to go. It would be nice to see a gym full of people supporting the girls on Wednesday evening in the final game of the year played at home. They’ve earned it.”
In the bottom part of Holbrook’s bracket, Chinle will host Payson, with the winner taking on Tuba City. One of those teams will meet Estrella Foothills, Holbrook or Alchesay in the quarterfinal round at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 18, at Tim’s Toyota Center in Prescott Valley. That eventual winner will most likely face top ranked Winslow in the semifinal game on Friday, Feb. 22, at the Glendale Arena.
