The Winslow Lady Bulldogs defeated the Safford Lady Bulldogs 58-26 in the Arizona State Division III Tournament Monday night in Prescott Valley, setting up a semifinal matchup with the Holbrook Lady Roadrunners at 6:15 tonight (Feb. 22) at the Jobing.com Arena in Glendale. The win improved Winslow’s record to an impressive 25-5 for the season and ended Safford’s season with a 27-7 record. The Lady Roadrunners edged the Tuba City Lady Warriors 45-43 Monday morning to earn their spot in the semifinals.
Winslow started with an excellent first period, building a 19-7 lead. The margin was increased to 34-17 by the half. Winslow played much of the first half with its starting inside players Shandiin Armao and Halle Hayes on the bench with two quick fouls. Winslow continued to dominate and led by a commanding 52-23 going into the final period. The running clock led to little fourth period scoring and Winslow had an impressively one-sided victory.
Mattea Begaii led all scorers with 20 points for Winslow, including five three-point shots. Marcella Joe scored 13 for Winslow and had an excellent game. Hayes scored 10 points despite spending much of the second quarter on the bench in foul trouble. Jordan Abalos led Safford with 11 points, well below her season average, and was the only Safford Lady Bulldog with more than six points.

In other games, the Valley Sanders Lady Pirates soundly defeated Glendale Christian 61-20 and will meet the Window Rock Lady Scouts at 2:45 p.m. today in Glendale. Window Rock nipped the Page Lady Sand Devils 30-24 to earn a berth in the semifinals.
