The Winslow Lady Bulldogs’ new softball coach, Kelli Fifelski, is looking forward to a good season. She noted that after two weeks of practice and a scrimmage with Payson she has seen a lot of talented, devoted, hardworking, well disciplined young ladies. She says that they have the skills, heart and determination to make this one extremely exciting season.
There are nine returning varsity players, who know their positions and communicate very well. They demonstrate outstanding leadership to their younger teammates both on and off the field.
“We also have some very talented underclassmen and I cannot wait to see what they will bring to this program in the future. This softball program has had a long history of success, and I have high expectations in myself as a coach and both JV and varsity to maintain that success,” said the coach.
Of the scrimmage with Payson, Fifelski said that she considered it an elevated practice and an opportunity to move players around to see how they look and play at several positions. She may have a few players who were participating in the state basketball tournament, which ended Saturday, and have not been practicing softball.
The Lady Bulldogs are slated to host the Flagstaff Lady Eagles at 3:30 p.m. today (Feb. 27) and the Holbrook Lady Roadrunners on Thursday, also at 3:30 p.m.
The Winslow junior varsity softball team is scheduled to host Flagstaff tonight and Holbrook on Thursday. They will host the Payson junior varsity at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5.
The next games for the varsity and junior varsity will be on Friday, March 8, at Snowflake, with the varsity to play at 3 p.m. and the junior varsity at 4:30 p.m.
