Holbrook defeated the Bulldogs 11-6 in their first regular season contest of the baseball season, earning the all important power point victory.
Holbrook took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on two singles and an error, then increased the margin to 6-0 in the top of the second on three singles, a triple and a walk. Winslow cut the margin to 6-2 in the bottom of the second on a walk and two singles.
The Roadrunners upped the lead to 8-2 in the top of the third on two singles, a double and a walk. Winslow got those runs back in the bottom of the frame on a hit batsman and a home run to cut the lead to 8-4.
Holbrook scored its final three runs in the top of the fifth on two walks and three singles to lead 11-4. Winslow cut the margin to 11-5 in the bottom of the fifth on two singles. The final run came in the bottom of the sixth on a walk and a single.
Jesse Spangler led the Roadrunners at the plate, going two for four with a double and collecting four RBIs. Buddy Wagoner also hit well, going two for three with a double and three RBIs.
Devin Nez earned the win on the hill, working three innings where he allowed just four runs. Nikko Ferniza worked the middle three innings, giving up two runs and Spangler closed out the Winslow squad, pitching a scoreless seventh inning.
With the win the Roadrunners improved to 2-4 on the young season. Three games are on tap for this week, including home matchups with Mogollon on Tuesday and Flagstaff today (March 6). On Friday, the Birds will make a short trip to face the Wildcats in Joseph City. On Wednesday, March 13, they will play host to Winslow.
