Members of the community are invited to help the congregation of St. John Missionary Baptist Church celebrate the installation of Sandra F. Lewis as pastor. Her installation and appreciation will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 17, at the church, located at 803 Lewis St. in Holbrook.
Pastor Lewis was raised in Holbrook, and is the proud mother of two beautiful daughters, Katlyn-Maryce and Michaela Lee. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from the University of Arizona and earned a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
She came to know the Lord and accepted him has her personal Savior at the age of 9, and was baptized on Oct. 28, 1979, at St. John Missionary Baptist Church. She moved to Tucson and joined Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church where she was instrumental in the work of the ministry. She then became part of the Eastside Community COGIC, which she helped organize.
Pastor Lewis relocated to the Las Vegas metropolitan area in 2004, where she became a member of the New Antioch Christian Fellowship Church. She answered the call, became a minister in training and was ordained in 2009. The following year she relocated to Holbrook and rejoined St. John Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor John Nelson.
Pastor Nelson appointed her as youth pastor and assigned her two services per month to deliver God’s word to the flock. Pastor Nelson went home to be with the Lord in March 2011 and Pastor Lewis became the spiritual leader of SJMBC under the direction of Pastor L.D. Marion.
She was called to be pastor of St. John Missionary Baptist Church in January. She has the privilege of being the first female pastor in SJMBC history and the first female pastor recognized in the Northern District of the Paradise Missionary Baptist State Convention.
