The Joseph City Lady Wildcats earned a split in two games played last week, picking up a win over St. Michaels on Tuesday, then falling to Snowflake two days later, with both games played at home.
In their win over St. Michaels, the Wildcats opened the game strong with nine runs scored through the first three innings. St. Michaels tried to make a late game rally, and scored eight runs combined in the fourth through sixth frames to pull within two runs at 10-8. In the bottom of the sixth, though, Joseph City put the hammer down, scoring four runs to win the game 14-8.
Brandi Cline went two for four with a triple, two RBIs and three runs scored. Chalet Baldwin was one for four with a run scored and an RBI. Payton Tanner went two for three, also scoring once with an RBI. Kymber Flake went one for one. Sharon Larsen was one for two. Searra Hansen went three for four with a double, three RBIs and scored twice. Sierra Johnstun was two for four with a triple, an RBI and scored twice. Sadie Tuckfield went one for four. Taylor Hill was two for three and scored twice.
In the circle, Sharon Larsen worked four innings, giving up eight runs, only two earned, on seven hits with five walks and three strikeouts. Taylor Hill worked three innings, allowing just one hit with one walk and five strikeouts.
On Thursday the Wildcats had no answers for Snowflake, as the Lady Lobos shut them out 16-0 in just five innings. The Wildcats were unable to figure out Snowflake’s Brylee Coplan and collected just two hits in the shutout loss. Snowflake led just 3-0 through three innings, but scored six in the fourth and closed the game out with seven runs in the fifth.
The Wildcats will host St. Johns today (March 20), then travel to Lakeside on Thursday, March 21, to meet Blue Ridge in their final game prior to spring break. After the break they will play at Holbrook on Tuesday, April 2.
