On Wednesday, March 13, the Navajo County Dive Team and Joseph City Fire Department assisted the Holbrook Police Department at Rainbow Lake in Lakeside with the search and recovery of a firearm that had been stolen from the American Legion on Dec. 26, 2012.
According to Holbrook Police Detective Tim Dixon, a suspect in the case, Kevin Steffler, 18, of Holbrook, provided authorities with the location at Rainbow Lake where the firearm could be found. Steffler has since been charged with burglary in connection with the incident.
The firearm was one of several taken from the portion of the building known as the “Foxhole.” The stolen weapons included World War II era firearms, as well as several bayonets and machetes.
