The Holbrook Roadrunner baseball squad opened the week with a well played, 13-1 road win over Round Valley on Monday in Eagar. The Roadrunners, who have been hampered by errors in previous games, played mistake free and outhit the Elks eight to three to claim the five-inning victory.
Holbrook pushed in three first inning runs, then added four more in the third, which was more than enough for winning pitcher Carlos Quintana. The Elks scored their only run in the second frame. The Birds completed the 10-run rule win with five runs in the fourth and one more in the top of the fifth.
Quintana went the distance, facing 19 batters. He allowed just one earned run on three hits with seven strikeouts and a pair of walks. At the plate he helped himself, going one for three with two RBIs. Jesse Spangler had another big day with the bat, going three for four with a double, a triple, two RBIs and two stolen bases, and he scored four runs. Shawn Gillespie was one for two with two RBIs and scored once. Jacob Baker went one for three, stole one base and scored two runs. Nikko Ferniza was also one for three, stole one base, scored one run and collected two RBIs. Nick Robinson was one for one with an RBI. Ray Searles also went one for one and scored twice. Adryan Fulton went one for four, had three RBIs, stole a base and scored twice. Julian Garcia scored once.
With the win the Roadrunners improved their power point record to 4-2, leaving them ranked 22nd heading into a doubleheader at Window Rock on Saturday, March 23. Following that, they will have a week off for spring break, then return to the diamond on Tuesday, April 2, when they host Joseph City.
