If you are interested in a career in the construction industry, you can learn more about Northland Pioneer College’s new construction trades program at an open house scheduled from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16, at the Holbrook-Painted Desert Campus, located at 2251 Navajo Blvd. in Holbrook, in the Nizhoni Learning Center, room 143.
The open house is open to adults and Northern Arizona Vocational Institute of Technology (NAVIT) students. Light refreshments will be served.
“The NPC construction technology program has been entirely revamped, updated and broadened. Coursework is geared to fulfill the requirements of NCCER, the nationally recognized agency for standardized construction training and credentialing,” commented Ken Wilk, program coordinator and faculty member.
OSHA Construction 10-hour certification to prepare you for entry in the workforce is standard.
You will find a wide range of courses that allow you to discover or pursue your interests in this demanding, but well-paid occupational field. Core requirements include classes in masonry and concrete systems, framing, roofing, thermal and moisture protection, as well as electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems. Building efficiency and effective use of resource constraints to increase productivity will be integrated into the curriculum. You also learn construction math, safety basics and how to read plans. Instruction throughout emphasizes effective communication and strategies for job success.
