Eunice M. Halsted McQuiston, 73, passed away on Friday, March 22, 2013, at her home in Snowflake. A memorial service will be held at a later date in the meadow on Escudilla Mountain east of Springerville.
She was born June 24, 1939 in Gary, Ind., to James M. Halsted and Eileen A. Hamann Halsted. She had one brother, James M. Halsted, and one sister, Gail Halsted.
Eunice grew up in Merrillville, Ind., moved to Arizona in 1964 to live in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe and Payson, and retired in Snowflake.
She graduated high school in Merrillville, Ind., with the Class of 1957, then attended business college in Gary. She later was a graduate of Long Medical Institute in Phoenix. She worked in accounting and retail sales.
Eunice had many hobbies, including crocheting, button collecting, thimble collecting, deco art painting and most recent, rock hounding with special interest in fluorescent minerals (ordinary to extraordinary). She was a part of the White Mountain Gem and Mineral Club
Survivors include two sons, Walter Heubel of Phoenix and Daniel (Bonnie) Heubel of Payson; two stepgranddaughters, Chelsie and Kristie; five great-grandkids; a sister-in-law, Jeanne Halsted; a nephew, Rob (Stacey) Halsted; two nieces, Arlene (Chris) Halsted Fox and Tracey (Jesse) Halsted Gonzales and their children; Aunts Doris Hamann Wirick of Indiana and Jean Hamann McCollum of Illinois; and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fredrick L. McQuiston of 20 years; one son, Timothy James Heubel; her brother, Jim “Monty” Halsted; her sister, Gail Halsted; and her parents.
Silver Creek Mortuary of Taylor was in charge of the arrangements.
