The Wildcat baseball squad bounced back from a loss to Holbrook to start the week by taking both games of a doubleheader from Ash Fork last Thursday.
Hosting the Spartans in the first game the Wildcats pushed in nine runs through the first two innings to take command of the game early. Ash Fork tried to mount a challenge in the third, but three runs weren’t near enough as Joseph City went on to win 11-6.
A trio of pitchers worked for Coach Eric Miller. Robert Larsen worked 11/3 innings, facing just seven batters. He allowed three runs, only two earned, with three walks and two strikeouts. Adam Smith pitched 22/3 innings, facing 15 batters. He gave up two runs, only one earned, on three hits with five strikeouts and three walks. Colton Spurlock worked three innings, facing 11 batters. He gave up just one earned run on two hits with two strikeouts and a walk.
At the plate, Spurlock went one for two with a double and scored once. Hayden Hendricks was one for three with an RBI. TJ Hendricks went one for three and scored twice. Cody Davis was zero for three, but walked, reached once on an error, had one RBI and scored twice. Larsen went two for four with two RBIs and scored twice. Adam Smith was zero for two, but walked and scored once. Jack Wilbank went one for two with an RBI. Wyatt Johnson went one for three with an RBI and scored a run. Robert Downs was two for three with a double, four RBIs and scored twice.
In the second game the Wildcats again prevailed, this time by a similar score with a 13-6 win.
Coach Miller again used three hurlers, with Larsen getting the most working as he faced 17 Spartan batters through five innings. He gave up two runs, both earned, on one hit with five strikeouts and three walks. Spurlock worked one inning, facing five batters. He gave up two runs, none earned, on one hit with one strikeout. Johnson pitched one inning, striking out all three batters he faced.
At the dish, Spurlock was one for five with a triple, two RBIs and scored a run. Hayden Hendricks went zero for four, but reached on an error and scored a run. TJ Hendricks went one for four with two RBIs and scored twice. Davis was one for three, scoring once. Kobe Smith went one for one with an RBI and scored once. Larsen went two for three with two doubles, an RBI and scored three runs. Adam Smith went one for four and scored once. Wilbanks went one for two with an RBI. Johnson went two for five with an RBI and scored twice. Downs went two for four with four RBIs. Sam Johnstun scored once in the Wildcat win.
Heading into this week’s action the Wildcats were 4-6 in power point games. After playing Mogollon on Tuesday at Heber, they will host Northland Prep in doubleheader action on Thursday, April 11. On Saturday, April 13, they will again play two games, both at Winslow. On Tuesday, April 16, they travel to Valley Sanders for yet another doubleheader contest.
