The Lady Roadrunners picked up three wins in their past four outings, with two of those coming by virtue of forfeit.
Saturday’s doubleheader contest scheduled at Valley Sanders was forfeited by the Pirates, helping the Roadrunners even their power point mark at 7-7 heading into the final two weeks of the regular season. With the Lady Birds hovering around the 24th and final seed for the state tournament, they will take all they help they can get.
Last Wednesday Holbrook picked up a 19-10 road win at Chinle. Tess Baldonado pitched well through seven innings with four strikeouts and three walks. At the plate Alizia Foster led the way, three for four with a home run. Terra Hooker and Demo Perkins were also three for four in the win.
Hosting Round Valley on Friday, Holbrook fell behind early and tried to mount a late comeback, but came up short, losing to the Elks 8-3. Baldonado again worked all seven innings in the circle, giving up 11 hits with sevenwalks and three strikeouts. At the plate Holbrook collected five hits and had one walk, but struck out eight times. Cierra Shumway went two for three and Perkins was one for two.
With two weeks left in the regular season the Roadrunners may need to win at least three of their four remaining games to qualify for the state tournament. After hosting St. Johns on Tuesday they will play Mogollon on Friday, April 19, at Heber and hit the road again on Saturday for a trip to St. Johns. Holbrook wraps up the regular season next Tuesday with a home game against Snowflake.
