The Lobos split the two games they played last week, falling to Show Low on Tuesday, then bouncing back with a 15-5 win over Alchesay on Friday.
Hosting the Cougars on Tuesday, Snowflake fell to the visitors in a slugfest as the two teams combined for 38 hits. A busy first inning saw the Cougars start things quickly with five runs in the top of the frame only to see the Lobos answer right back to take the lead with seven runs in the home half. Show Low moved out in front and led 9-8 through five innings, then opened the game up with a huge sixth inning where the Cougars pushed in eight runs as they batted through the order and took a commanding 17-10 lead. Both teams fared well in the seventh with three runs each, but that left Snowflake on the wrong side of a 20-13 final score.
The Lobos gave up 22 hits and made four errors, while the Cougars were error free and gave up 16 hits to the Lobos.
Josh Kelley went three for five with an RBI for Snowflake and scored twice. Freddy Pinkley was four for five with two doubles and five RBIs, stole one base and scored twice. Nik Tate went two for four with two RBIs, stole a base and scored a run. Caedon Ervien was zero for three, but walked and scored a run. Hayden Bauer went zero for one, but drew two walks and scored once. Tanner Crosby stole a base and scored once. Nate Kelley went two for five with a walk and scored twice. Braccin Tanner was two for five and scored once. Hunter Bauer went one for four, stole a base and scored a run. JJ Jones went zero for three, but walked, had an RBI and scored a run. Bradley Clark went one for one with two RBIs.
Jarom Beecroft worked 51/3 innings, facing 32 Cougar batters. He allowed 12 runs, 10 earned, on 15 hits with 3 strikeouts. Tyler Hanson pitched 12/3 innings, facing 17 batters. He gave up eight runs, five earned, on six hits with two strikeouts.
The Lobos came into this week ranked 18th in power points and with just two games left they appear headed to the state tournament next week, although they will be a lower seed and will have to play a first round game. After playing at Holbrook on Tuesday, they will conclude the regular season today (April 24) at Show Low.
