Lodina Mitchell, a longtime resident of Holbrook, was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 23, 2013. The viewing will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 30, at Resthaven Mortuary/Cemetery, located at 6450 W. Northern Ave. in Glendale, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m.
She was born July 10, 1935, in Newton, Miss., to George and Bertha McCurdy. She went to school in Forest, Miss.
Lodina moved to McNary in 1952 and married her husband of 60 years, F.L. Mitchell.
As her children grew up, she spent her time active in the community, and advocated for children and others so they all had the same opportunities. She spent time supporting and watching her children in various sports and school activities.
Lodina was an active member of the PTA and served as a board member from 1968-70. She enjoyed summer visits by her grandchildren. She was a proud member of over 30 years with the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and a volunteer at the Holbrook Senior Center. She loved her weekly bingo sessions, and enjoyed quilting and embroidery during the winter. She was active in the church and had a strong faith in God until the end.
She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister.
Survivors include her husband, F.L. Mitchell; six children, Audrey (Mark), Buddy (Donna), Perry (Gail), Denise (Travis), Gene and Edward; one brother, George; one sister, Mattie Mae; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jacqueline (Jackie), her mother, her father, six brothers and two sisters.Lodina Mitchell Obit
