Lisa Johnson of Holbrook won the 4D Open championship at the National Barrel Horse Association State Championships held April 5-7 at the Apache Gold Casino in San Carlos. She and her horse Brice won a saddle for their efforts. Johnson also placed 15th in the 2D Open, third in the 2D Senior and fifth in the 3D Senior.
Raney Pate of Springerville won the 2D Youth title and a buckle. Pate also took ninth in the Target Youth
Other District 4 members who won or placed in the state event included Jolene Baird, who placed 12th in the 2D Open and second in the 2D Senior; Sarah Darst, 20th in the 4D Open, fifth in the 3D Youth and third in the Target Youth; Betty Campbell, 40th in the 5D Open and 10th in the 4D Senior; Carolee DeWitt, 16th in the 3D Open and third in the 3D Senior; Randy Johnson, 18th in the 4D Open and eighth in the 3D Senior; Bonnie Stradling, 24th in the 2D Open; Kent Darris, 19th in the 2D Open and fourth in the 2D Senior; Callie Van Ooteghene, sixth in the 5D Open; Michelle Ulibarri, Ange Dickerson, Linda Fagotti, Pat Wood and Glo Begay.
